XLIII. The Chicken and the Egg

Dear Reader, “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” Even to the ancient philosophers, this dilemma was problematic and mysterious. How about you, what do you say? Anyway, a dilemma is a problem that seems to defy a satisfactory solution. Good thinkers continue to want to solve this dilemma, ever since the dawning of time.

If we listen to the Holy Scriptures, then we hear, “In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth . . . and every winged bird according to its kind . . .” This side of the argument seems to suggest that the chicken was created prior to the first egg of a hen or chicken. The consequence of this reality begs the question: But what about her egg?

Since we are speaking of the beginning, let us consider the apple;) If I hold an apple in my hand to consume, then after the first bite, is the thing in my hand still an apple? Of course, it is. Thereafter the second, third, fourth, fifth bite, etc., and all the way down to its core, bearing its seeds, the thing is still an apple.

If, with only the seed-bearing core in my hand, someone were to ask, “What are you doing?”, then I could respond by saying that “I am eating an apple.” The apple is still in existence – visibly. Hmmm, this seems like a paradox, a contradiction: the seed-bearing core of an apple is still an apple.

Anyhow, Dear Reader, if we continue to listen to Holy Scripture, then we hear, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb . . .” Even before Moses, both Aristotle and Plato agreed that everything before it appeared on Earth had its being, first, in spirit. Wow, the Truth is starting to emerge!

Dear Reader, on March 25, we, Catholics, celebrate one of the most mysterious and wonder-filled days on our Catholic calendar. And rightly so, it is the First Joyful Mystery of the Most Holy Rosary! We have that extra-special day, which we call the Annunciation.

At this Holy and Royal Proclamation, Mary assents to The Incarnation. This is the Holy Wherewithal of God becoming Flesh, on Earth! Thanks be to God for Mary’s Fiat! The Incarnation of Jesus, the Second Person of the Holy and Undivided Trinity, arrives on Earth, fulfilling the holy prophesies throughout the Old Testament.

Dear Reader, further on in Holy Scripture, we hear, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The Incarnation of Loving Jesus teaches us three vital Truths: the Divine Person of Jesus Christ, the Human Nature of Jesus Christ, and the Hypostatic Union of the Human with the Divine Nature in the Divine Person of Jesus Christ!

Anyhow, Dear Reader, we are all referred to as Children of God. We are neither referred to as adults of God nor whatever our age that we may be. We are all Children of God. Children and adults, young or old, are the Children of God! There are no dilemmas!

At conception in our mother’s womb, we are all created as God’s Children! Therefore, with no ifs, ands, or buts, the chicken is the egg, and the egg is the chicken. They are not mutual exclusive!

Furthermore, going back to that pesky paradoxical apple, just one seed of that apple has the potential to populate our Earth with many more apple trees, and from those new apple trees, more and more apples are dependent.

Dear Reader, The Angel of the Lord appeared unto Mary, and she was conceived by the Holy Spirit! Behold the handmaid of the Lord; let “It” be done to me (Mary) according to Thy Word! The Word (Jesus) was made Flesh, and dwelt among us! May the Grace of the Lord Jesus be with all!

St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi, pray for us!

Archangels Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel, defend us!

Stay-tuned for, “There is Nothing New under the Sun” on Thursday, May 31.

Peace & JAMLY,

hobo euie
