I have a hunch all of us sometime or other wouldn’t give up some of our thoughts for mere pennies. Possibly we have some thoughts that are not for sale even for a large wad of bills.
This is in regards to all those times when we are listening to someone and nodding in agreement while secretly inside our minds another train of thought is taking place. A saga we would not care to share at show and tell with our best of friends. Nope, pennies won’t pry open these off the wall thoughts.
Anyways aren’t they personal thoughts; not for other ears to hear. What harm will they do? So we have some dark thoughts that go against what we portray, as long as we don’t voice them and keep them private there should be no issue, right?
Makes me ask is it possible to keep our minds in the gutter and still hold prayer in our hearts? Our thoughts need to be on our prayers. We can try to act one way while thinking the opposite, but sooner or later our thoughts and actions will get all mixed up. We see this all the time as a person’s life unravels before our eyes. You know the person who had it all, who always seemed so nice, who would never do anything to hurt a flea, who appeared so together; something gives and their whole life becomes unglued. They aren’t anything like what we thought they were all along.
Jesus tells us one day all our thoughts will be made public. “Whatever is now covered up will be uncovered, and every secret will be made known” these words can be found in Matthew’s Gospel.
If you are wondering what to think about here is something else to ponder on: “Listen!” says Jesus. “I am coming soon! I will bring my rewards with me, to give to each one according to what he has done. I am the first, and the last, and the beginning and the end.” (Revelation 22:12-13.)
May the grace of our Lord Jesus be in your thoughts.
